Aloha, Oregon

Pronounced “Ah-lowwa” rather than the more familiar Hawaiian “Ah-lo-ha”, locals aren’t sure how their town came to be named. Was it named by former railroad worker Robert Caples, or by the town’s first postmaster in 1912 in remembrance of a favorite spot on Lake Winnebago? Neither, says ex-postmaster Frithjof G. Tollefsen, who claims the singing of Hawaiian Queen Liliuokalani’s most famous song Aloha ‘Oe (Farewell To Thee) during a party inspired the town moniker. Just remember to say “Aloha” to the farmers when you join 15,000 other shoppers at the nearby Beaverton Farmers Market on summer Saturdays. You’ll find Aloha at 45°29’6” North, 122°52’ West. Find your place; find yourself.
