Brewster, Washington

How does this town on the Columbia River go from being named Rich Bar to Brewster? First, the fur trade flops in 1841 when the Hudson Bay Company reports that “there are few or no fur bearing animals in the surrounding country.” Then the 1859 gold rush fizzles out. Good-bye Rich Bar, hello Brewster. But not just that kind – the town was platted on land bought from John Bruster in 1896. Fortunately, fruit farming found favor. In fact, Brewster’s own G. M. Adams won four first-place prizes for his apples at the 1908 Spokane Interstate Fair, establishing Brewster’s fruit growing credentials. You’ll find Brewster @ 48°5′55″North, 119°46′54″ West. Find your place – find yourself.
