Starting with a store in the early 1870’s, John Looney helped found the town named after him. This thriving community in rural Texas grew to the astounding population of 100 at its heyday in the 1890’s. With Looney’s store, saw mills, a gin, a church, and a school with an enrollment of 32, Looneyville looked to be on its way. Unfortunately, the town quickly declined until today it is listed as a dispersed rural community.

Maybe it was something in the water, or maybe visitors feared they would become what the town professed. Whether the residents ended up in padded cells or drifted off into their own world we will never know, but a visit to this other dimension might just be the dose of reality you need.
