Dubbed “The most exciting place to live” by town boosters, Boring was originally known as Boring Junction. Boring was named for W. H. Boring, who built the town’s first school, thus validating the youth mantra that "school is boring." Located just 15 miles East of Portland, Boring was a timber industry town for much of the 20th Century. Boring is near the Boring Lava Fields which are anything but.
